Brill Bruisers is the first new release in four years from the acclaimed supergroup The New Pornographers, who NPR calls "virtually peerless in the world of power-pop and indie-rock". Additionally, the New Yorker describes the band's music as "magnificent and clever" while Stereogum proclaims, "In recent history, no group has featured so much formidable established talent, collaborating on a regular basis."
Globally revered as innovators and leading lights of their genre, Basement Jaxx blew the lid off the dance music scene of the late 90’s with their ground breaking albums Remedy, Rooty and KishKash. Having firmly established their place in the pantheon of dance music greats, the duo of Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe are back with Junto, a genre-hopping musical roller-coaster that showcases the band’s legendary inventiveness, irresistible songwriting and production smarts. Watch the video for the global club smash "Never Say Never (WATCH THE VIDEO)".
The Segall has landed. And it's fully loaded, with everything that Ty Segall (and you and me) are gonna need in the world to come. Heads up! It's coming down fast. Sticking his hand deeper into the machines all around him, with Manipulator, TY is reaching ever further to the outer limits of inner space orbited throughout TWINS and SLEEPER.
Ariana Grande's sophomore album My Everything follows the success of her double platinum single, Problem feat. Iggy Azalea, which sold over 438k its first week, and her debut album Yours Truly, that came in at #1 on the Top 200 in September 2013.
One of the world's largest rock bands Avenged Sevenfold presents, Waking The Fallen: Resurrected, a new album experience unlike anything they have ever released. Avenged Sevenfold has personally curated this back from the dead look at their fan favorite, genre defining, breakthrough album Waking The Fallen. This rare new release includes 11 never before heard songs, 23 total tracks, new artwork, a never before seen music video for Unholy Confessions, and a 30 minute film featuring the present day band. This is a must own album for any A7X fan!
Royal Blood's self titled album is a mixture of anguished vocals, ferocious drumming and bass that provides intricate detail as well as a rumble of rhythm. The sound is a result of a lineage that stretches from present day heroes Queens of the Stone Age to the influential Led Zeppelin, and all the way back to early blues pioneers... yet this huge wall of sound emerges from just two members.
London, UK quartet Dry the River return with 'Alarms in the Heart', a bolder, more expansive, confident and cohesive set of songs and an undeniable step up in both diversity and volume from their critically acclaimed debut "Shallow Bed" (2012). Produced by Charlie Hugall (Florence and The Machine, Ed Sheeran), Paul Savage (Mogwai, Franz Ferdinand) and Peter Miles (We Are The Ocean, Futures), these new songs are at turns anthemic, cerebral and irresistible. Peter Liddle's melifluous, choral voice blends effortlessly with chiming guitars and stirring rhythms, and additional emotional resonance is provided by arrangements and strings from Valgeir Sigurðsson (Sigur Rós, Björk). Plus there are other great, new releases including Pale Communion from Opeth, which was produced by the band's very own Mikael Åkerfeldt and mixed by longtime collaborator and Porcupine Tree frontman/guitarist Steven Wilson, and is heralded by the lead single, Cusp of Eternity. After the end is the new album from Merchandise and their first for the 4AD label! Stadium new wave 'n' jangly psych-pop outta Florida, for fans of Echo & The Bunnymen and Interpol. Includes "Enemy" and "Little Killer". After many years of waiting, it is time once again for The Rentals to return. Matt Sharp and co are back with their new album Lost In Alphaville which sees them back in Moogtastic form. The Man Upstairs is the 20th studio release from psychedelic folk musician Robyn Hitchcock. The effort sees Hitchcock team up with producer Joe Boyd (Nick Drake, Fairport Convention) and produce an album of covers of his favorite songs, as well as some original tunes. And over all these years a lot of bands have come and gone, trends and styles came and disappeared, Motörhead came and ...stayed! Over 3 decades and still a crushing statement of defiant searing rock'n'roll energy. Motörhead's 21st studio album the enormous and prophetic Aftershock delivered a crushing statement that was right on the spot. With the release of the Aftershock: Tour Edition, one can sit back and watch Motörhead marching from the dust storm to deliver a bonus live CD which resolutely illustrates their return to form.
Plus, Cymbals Eat Guitars, Shovels & Rope, Ian Anderson, The Griswolds, Fenech-Soler, Brad Paisley, Superdrag, Randy Bachman, Elephant Stone, Thousand Foot Krutch, Bastard Sapling, Floating Action, J Mascis, The Kinks, Mndsgn, Kem, Asia, Famous Last Words, Chelsea Wolfe, and Bruce Hornsby.
As Robert Plant prepares to release his upcoming Nonesuch label debut 'Lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar', he gives us a taste of what we can expect in the form of his latest single 'Pocketful Of Golden'. In a recent interview, Plant described Pocketful of Golden as "one of those amazing instances where we pieced together so many great ideas. All the combined gifts of the band, drifting through these varieties and styles, give us some amazing places to go." The full album will be available on both CD and LP 09/09.
LOOKING AHEAD OUT NEXT WEEK
Looking ahead to next week's chart, we are excited to present an Early Listen for what is perhaps Johnny Winter's greatest album. Step Back features and amazing list of musical guests and takes Johnny back to a more aggressive style of blues... one that helped shape the musical icon. Produced by Paul Nelson, Step Back showcases classic songs that were inspiring to Johnny Winter. This man, Johnny Winter, remains as vibrant as ever. Johnny Winter's Final CD will feature one limited edition guitar pick per CD. Each of 5 different colors were chosen by Johnny. A special white mother of pearl pick is limited to 5,000. It's just beautiful. The album is available now for Pre-Order and you can watch the moving Video to the lead single Can't Hold Out (Talk To Me Baby) Feat. Ben Harper, which features tributes from all those who loved and were inspired by Johnny Winter.
Basements hung with fairy lights, 60s tape reels spinning antique spools, drums dusted with white powder. Gritty riffs and psych rock washes slither beneath airy, blissed-blank Nico vocals spinning spectral tales of shattered romance. A beautifully ruined pair – he a leather-clad glowering guitar phantom, she a glacial, broken bombshell – blow glitter at each other through the flashes from old cameras. This is the world of Coves, a classic psych-garage aesthetic vacuum-sealed forever in one time, one space. The space is Castle Grayskull, the live-in studio that musical mastermind John Ridgard helped build in a disused office in Leamington Spa and where heir debut album was recorded. And the time covers the duration of singer and lyricist Beck Wood's last big relationship, laid out in her songs from first flutter to final choke. Their Debut Album Soft Friday is available now for Pre-Order and check out the fantastic video for their single Wake Up Here.

The Americana bluegrass string band Old Crow Medicine Show continue to maintain their sound as heard on their previous albums while embracing new techniques and directions on their eighth effort Remedy. This release marks the follow up to 2012's Carry Me Back and includes the track "Sweet Amarillo" which, like previous recording and band signature tune "Wagon Wheel," is a reinterpretation of music by Bob Dylan. You can preview the album here and also check out the album trailer video which gives you a perfect taste of their incredible album.
Electric Würms, a prog-rock side project featuring The Flaming Lips' multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd on vocals, guitars, and keyboards and front man Wayne Coyne on bass and backed by Nashville psychedelic rock band Linear Downfall, presents a six-song album on Warner Bros. Records. Musik, Die Shwer Zu Twerk, will transport the listener into a new kind of transcendental orbit than one might expect from The Lips alone. Instead, these six velvety compositions appear to be harvested from a higher bardo plane of sound yet maintain a pleasantly familiar rock "experience" associated with The Lipsianoeuvre.
Throughout her time with Azure Ray and over the course of her solo career, Orenda Fink has never shied from exploring the darker edges of spirituality and the human condition. On her latest album, Blue Dream, she looks closely at death, reflecting upon a year-long meditation on the subject. That year she found herself on a deeply personal search for the meaning of death. Pieces of answers, coded in riddle, came to her in dreams. Her dreams began to tell a story–about life and death and the afterlife, reality, and the fine line between the conscious and subconscious world. She then spent the next year understanding the experience and filtering it through the musical inspirations of Smog, Violetta Parra, and Kate Bush to craft Blue Dream. The album trulycame together at ARC in Omaha, NE with the help of producers Ben Brodin and Todd Fink (The Faint), along with drummer Bill Rieflin (Ministry, Swans, R.E.M., King Crimson).
Kimbra's 2nd album The Golden Echo is ambitious, sophisticated, and complex, just like its creator. The Golden Echo was produced by Rich Costey who has been on her dream list of collaborators since she was 15. The lyrics find her grappling with a range of subject matter, from feeling nostalgic about young love on "90s Music," to being caught up in a place of narrowness on "Mad House," to wanting to run away and make a new life on "Carolina," to the vulnerability that follows succumbing to temptation on "Be Everlovin Ya." Kimbra wrote several of the songs with Daniel Johns from Silverchair, another idol of hers.
Sparks has been on a well traveled journey, one which Heap began at 6am 14 March 2011, with a live stream from her home studio in a small village on the outskirts of London, gathering 'sound seeds' from fans and weaving them together to form the first song (Lifeline). Fast forward, 4 continents later, a dozen related projects and 14 tracks, the album cover artwork was then completed by those who pre-ordered the limited edition, super deluxe box set by sending in their footprints! The stunning piece of artwork and packaging, designed and developed over the past three years by Imogen and her creative team with CSV (the company behind Radiohead s special packaging) it is the very first time that Imogen has released such a super deluxe package.
Jessica Hernandez & The Deltas have arrived at last with their long awaited Instant Records debut, Secret Evil. The album which follows 2013 s Demons EP sees the Detroit-based band serving up a brilliantly polyglot sonic stew equal parts rockabilly and surf pop, cabaret jazz and funky reggae, Latin psych and Gypsy punk all cooked up on the hot Motor City pavement and seasoned by that distinctly Detroit combination of blasted R&B, showband theatrics, and limitless rock n soul energy. I Will Not Be Afraid is the national debut album by Caroline Rose, a fiery 24-year-old songwriter raised on rockabilly, vintage country and blues- infused rock; a self-proclaimed failed scholar and modern-day hobo who earned a degree in architecture (on a full-ride scholarship), then abandoned it all. Produced, written and arranged by Rose and co- produced with multi-instrumentalist Jer Coons, the album chronicles Caroline's wandering years; a disillusioned youth constantly demanding free- dom and the most from life. Raised in the North- east, Rose is a rare mix of Northern grit and Southern charm whose musical influences trace back to her family's Southern roots, running deep into the heart of Mississippi.
Blacc Hollywood marks the third full-length label release from Wiz Khalifa, and includes the hit single, "We Dem Boyz." Memoirs of a Murderer is an embodiment of KING 810’s life within this pressure cooker. JJ have, with the album 'V', realised the definitive expression of their experiences to date, and are finally comfortable with being a press-welcoming, tour-ready outfit. With more instrumental sophistication and all-tape recording, Native Echoes features more atmosphere and patina to deepen its new octane from Beach Day. The new Bishop Allen record, Lights Out, is here at last.
Selah, Benjamin Booker, Posies, Offspring, Castanets, Paul Hardcastle, Music Go Music, Apache Dropout, Sleeping Bag, The Weeks, Suzanne Vega, Look Again To The Wind Johnny Cashs Bitter Tears, Dr. John, Smokey Robinson, Colton Dixon, Chase Rice, Dirty Loops, Better Than Ezra, He is Legend, and Buckcherry.

The Man Upstairs sees psychedelic troubadour Robyn Hitchcock uniting with legendary producer Joe Boyd (Nick Drake, Fairport Convention, R.E.M.) for one of the most unique outings of his already quite distinctive career. The album sees the British singer/songwriter musing on mortality, masculinity, and the impossibility of forever.
Indicative of where Sinead is in life, I’m Not Bossy, I’m The Boss is passionate and direct, yet with an overarching fragility; her voice is a weapon, as powerful as it is tender. Available in Regular and Deluxe editions. Deluxe features hardbound book packaging and three bonus tracks. Vinyl version due August 25.
Live from Atlanta is a massive, career-spanning collection of songs recorded over three nights in Atlanta’s Terminal West. It’s a four-LP greatest hits collection of 32 tunes played the way they were meant to be heard, with all the distinguishing elements you’d hear at Lucero’s live show—horns, pianos, and the trademark instrument of the band’s live sound: whiskey-fueled audience sing-alongs.
The fifth album from the New Jersey-based rockers, Get Hurt sees The Gaslight Anthem pushing their raw stripped back rock & roll into new territory, drawing on a fresh palette of influences ranging from folk, punk, and Americana. Billy Thermal's self-titled release contains the original versions of songs later made famous by superstars like Linda Ronstadt, Pat Benatar, and Rick Nelson. The R.E.M. MTV Unplugged: The Complete Sessions 4-LP vinyl set was a big hit. Rolling Stone's 4-star revue said that "No band but Nirvana made more breathtakingly transformative use of MTV Unplugged than R.E.M." Due to strong demand from both consumers and retail on that limited-edition release, we have broken out the two shows into two individual 2-LP sets. Listen is the band's first album in three years. The album was recorded in Los Angeles and London, and produced by Inflo. 'With this record we didn't do any rehearsing beforehand. I'd write a song with Inflo or on my own, put it up and we'd all play over it. There was a real freedom to the process,' said the band's frontman Luke Pritchard. 'To me this album is about pure expression. Even the way we made the album felt fresh. Rather than us just being a band in a room, playing our guitars with the vocal over the top, which is what we'd always done before, we were really listening to what was going on around us, picking up ideas. The whole thing was much more natural.'$14.98 $13.98
2014 release, the sixth album from the Australian Alt-Rock band. For the first time, the band has delivered a double album containing 22 songs. On WICKED NATURE, frontman Craig Nicholls makes his debut in the role of record producer. He co-produced disc one with regarded Australian tape loving analog producer Paul McKercher (You Am I) and then he assumes full control over the production duties for the second disc. The Vines have been a mercurial band since they arrived in 2002. Their talent took hold when the debut album HIGHLY EVOLVED launched them as one of Rock music's new saviors. It was a height though that the volatile band was never going to maintain for long. At some point the tales took over the talent and became their namesake camouflage. Out of sight the band might have been, but not out of the studio.$14.98 $13.98
2014 release, the ninth studio album from the Alt-Rock band. BARRAGAN is ambitious. Tracks like 'Dripping', 'The One I Love', and 'Defeatist Anthem (Harry And I)' have all the emotional punches of previous high water marks in the band's repertoire - the just feel slightly less calculated, more serendipitous. Formed in 1993, Blonde Redhead have never made records for fame, or for money, or to ape their teenage heroes, or to indulge any of the dumb, ephemeral impulses that clog up the blogosphere with dumb, ephemeral music. They make music, simply, because they have to.$69.98 $62.98
A very special, strictly limited velvet jacket edition of the complete 1967 recordings made by Van Morrison that launched his solo career into the stratosphere! Features all of the tracks from Van s solo debut including the monster hit Brown Eyed Girl all digitally remastered for this special 180 gram pressing on splatter red & black vinyl with full color insert!$49.98 $44.98
Reputedly one of Dead archivist Dick Latvala's favorite concerts, and the first of the Dick's Picks series to present a 60s show, Vol. 16 or, more specifically, disc one of Vol. 16, captures a crucial turning point in the band's history. There you will find embryonic versions of the songs that were to form Workingman's Dead, as the group begins to steer away from the psychedelic, blues-based jamming of their early years towards the country-rock pole star that was to guide much of their early 70s music (and the friendly hometown crowd at the Fillmore proves the ideal audience for the premiere of the new material).
'I Am King' is the new album from Code Orange (formerly Code Orange Kids), recorded at God City Studios by Kurt Ballou. Unpredictability is the law as Code Orange navigate through their distorted world. Title track 'I Am King' shifts from 'heavy' to 'hard to define' through the use of unorthodox guitar work/percussion and chaotic structure. While songs 'Dreams in Inertia', 'Starve', and 'Bind You' all wear an art-rock crown while claiming a metallic throne. It's not just melodious experimentation though, 'Unclean Spirit', 'My World', and 'Thinners of the Herd' show Code Orange reimagining what aggressive music can be. Elevating and expanding what can be done within the confines of it without leaving it behind entirely. Proving that Code Orange are true artists and not just 'kids' anymore.$13.98 $12.98
Evolving since the Spring of 2012, alternative- hardcore band MERIDIAN started with the mindset to breathe life into a dying scene. After self-releasing their Reformation EP in 2013 they developed a loyal following and within a year had completed several tours across the East Coast.$13.98 $12.98
Anthony D Amato releases his 2014 album, The Shipwreck From The Shore, a riveting 10-track collection. The NYC-based songwriter is growing from his early homespun self-recorded solo acoustic work to a more ambitious, full-band sound. The album was recorded at The Great North Sound Society, an 18th Century farmhouse-turned-studio deep in the woods of Maine.
Announcing Overjoyed, the first album in 13 years from legendary punk band Half Japanese. One of the most influential bands of all time, Jad Fair and Half Japanese spearheaded the DIY and Lo-Fi movements, influencing countless bands such as Sonic Youth, Neutral Milk Hotel, Daniel Johnston, and perhaps most notably, Kurt Cobain (who ranked Half Japanese amongst his top 50 favorites, had them open the In Utero tour, and was wearing their t-shirt when he died). Without exaggeration, Half Japanese is one of the most important bands in the history of music. Overjoyed was recorded and produced by John Dieterich of Deerhoof, and ranks amongst the best albums of the band's catalog.$16.98 $14.98
Debut album from this underground rap supergroup featuring the Insane Clown Posse and Da Mafia Six.$18.98 $16.98
The 37 track, 2-CD set features performances from an impressive array of Ritchie's fans and admirers, all of whom have come together to honor the living legacy of the Kentucky-born singer/songwriter many refer to as The Mother of Folk. Contributors were intentionally selected to represent the diversity of genres and generations Ritchie has influenced throughout her life, with classic artists like Pete Seeger, Judy Collins, Janis Ian, Kathy Mattea, Tim O'Brien, Robin and Linda Williams, Oscar Brand, and Dale Ann Bradley sharing the spotlight with up and coming talents like the Starry Mountain Singers, Rachael Davis, and Matt Brown.$17.98 $15.98
Two years after leveling the expectations of critics and listeners alike with Atma, doom powerhouse YOB unleashes Clearing the Path to Ascend, an aptly titled album for what will undoubtedly be the trio's crowning achievement.$15.98 $13.98
Calico the band is three: Kirsten Proffit, Manda Mosher, and Aubrey Richmond. All are great and dedicated musicians, each with accomplished and celebrated solo careers under way. That is, until Calico brought them together. As powerful as each is individually, an undeniable magic occurs when all three come together. It's at the heart of their debut album, RANCHO CALIFORNIA, which is replete with singularly strong songwriting chops, rich harmonies, and a pervasive Americana passion. Like the expansive spirit of Laurel Canyon that spawned so many famous bands and artists, now comes this new spirit, rooted in the vast valleys and canyons of L.A.$15.98 $13.98
God Help The Girl is a musical feature film, written and directed by Stuart Murdoch, lead singer of the group Belle and Sebastian. It was produced by Barry Mendel and stars Emily Browning, Olly Alexander and Hannah Murray. The film was shot, edited, scored and mixed in Glasgow.$14.98 $13.98
