Steve Earle & The Dukes - Ghosts of West Virginia - New West Records
Ghosts of West Virginia centers on the Upper Big Branch coal mine explosion that killed twenty-nine men in that state in 2010, making it one of the worst mining disasters in American history. In ten deftly drawn sonic portraits, Steve Earle and his band The Dukes explore the historical role of coal in rural communities. More than merely a question of jobs and income, mining has provided a sense of unity and meaning, patriotic pride and purpose.

Jaime Wyatt - Neon Cross - New West Records
If there’s one lesson to be gleaned from Jaime Wyatt's latest album, Neon Cross, it’s that life goes on. And through it all—good times and bad, dreaming and desperation, there is truth. When it came to capturing that truth on tape, Wyatt had some assistance from Shooter Jennings, who produced Neon Cross. Together, she and Jennings boldly color outside the country lines, taking a wide-lens sonic and stylistic approach to the songs on Neon Cross.
Kip Moore - Wild World - MCA Nashville
Multi-PLATINUM singer/songwriter Kip Moore’s highly anticipated fourth studio album Wild World will be available May 29. Co-writing 12 of the album’s 13 insightful tracks, he navigates the search to find a place and purpose. Throughout the album, that search is revealed in deeply personal terms, with Kip even co-producing the set. The weathered heartland-rock sound Moore has embraced gets its emotional volume pumped up, recorded live with a full band. CD includes a free poster offer, valid thru 12/31/20.
The White Buffalo - On The Widow's Walk - Spinefarm
The White Buffalo is Jake Smith: singer, song-writer, guitarist, teller of stories; an artist whose voice – an emotive timber-shakin’ baritone – seems directly linked to a greater truth; an artist who will not be swayed by fashion or restricted by genre. And now, The White Buffalo releases the new studio album, ‘On The Widow's Walk’ – an 11 song, loosely linked collection of dark thrills produced by Shooter Jennings, who also plays piano and keys.
Christian Lee Hutson - Beginners - Anti
The buzz around Christian Lee Hutson started in earnest in 2018 after he began his collaborative friendship with singer Phoebe Bridgers. Hutson co-wrote songs with Bridgers for both the EP of supergroup boygenius (ft. Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus) and her 2019 release with Conor Oberst, Better Oblivion Community Center. The emerging folk artist received further critical attention after Bridgers invited him to Eaux Claires Festival last July, where he performed a solo set and earned praise from festival host Bon Iver. Eventually, Bridgers asked if she could produce an album for him. Engineered and mixed by Joseph Lorge (Blake Mills, Perfume Genius), the forthcoming release also features contributions from Bright Eyes pianist Nathaniel Walcott. To merely call Christian Lee Hutson an old soul would be to deny the vibrancy of his sound. Hutson writes songs that the SF Bay Guardian describes as, "... Foreboding, bluesy love ballads laden with longing nostalgia." For Fans of Phoebe Bridgers, Elliott Smith and Bright Eyes.

An album about loss of innocence and acquired wisdom that’s self-critical, self-assured and soul-searching.

Thao & The Get Down Stay Down - Temple - Domino
Thao & The Get Down Stay Down, the San Francisco-based band fronted by singer and songwriter Thao Nguyen, release their fifth studio album Temple. The album is among Thao's most open and honest work yet, finding her coming out in her public life after a long career in which she kept her queer identity quiet in an effort to avoid turmoil with and alienation from a family and culture she deeply loves. Temple follows Thao & the Get Down Stay Down's 2016 album A Man Alive which was released to widespread critical praise. NPR Music called it a 'brilliant, jarring new album'[Nguyen's] most rewarding work yet,' while Pitchfork raved that it is 'Nguyen's most rhythmically robust, gleefully discordant release to date' and Stereogum called it 'explosive and melodically dense.' Over the past year Thao served as guest host of the acclaimed podcast Song Exploder.

Due to the current circumstances RSD 2020 has once again had to adapt and here is the latest information from Record Store Day:
Since 2008, Record Store Day has grown into the world’s largest single-day music event, shining a light on the culture of the indie record store across the globe. The titles on the RSD 2020 Official List, launched on March 5th, will be released at participating record stores on one of these three RSD Drops: August 29th, September 26th, and October 24th. The new version of The List, with newly assigned RSD Drops dates will launch on June 1 so check back here for a look at when you'll be able to pick up the titles on your RSD 2020 wishlist at your local record store.

2020 release. If you want to travel America, take the Train. As the Grammy-nominated kingpin of American roots, Victor Wainwright's second release with the crack-squad band he assembled in 2018 is a snapshot of all the nation's great cities and genres - with a modern twist. And, as the title tells you, Memphis Loud's rattle-and-shout originals demand to be played at speaker-shaking volume. "Find a moment," he advises, "to sit back with your favorite headphones or speakers, turn it up, and listen. It's heavy, and I know you're gonna love it."
Prolific singer-songwriter Ashe continues to build on her electrifying momentum in 2020, after her hit single, "Moral Of The Story” was featured in the Netflix hit sequel "To All The Boys...PS I Still Love You”. The track features contributions from grammy award winning producer FINNEAS and lyrical contribution from Billie Eilish. Since then, the track accumulated over 75 million streams (3.5 million per day) in less than a month, landed on 54 Spotify viral charts and 758K Shazams. The track was added to Spotify’s largest pop playlist Today’s Top Hits (25M followers) and Apple’s Today’s Hits. “Moral of the Story” is impacting pop and alternative radio now with early adds from iHeart USA, KYSR Los Angeles, Entercom USA, KITS San Francisco, National SiriusXM and Alt Nation. This summer Ashe will be performing in 20K capacity venues alongside AJR, Quinn XCII and Hobo Johnson. For the first time ever, the 2-part EP Moral of the Story: Chapters 1 & 2 will be pressed on exclusive yellow vinyl.
In conjunction with Jollett’s memoir, The Airborne Toxic Event has completed an album by the same name, a twelve song concept record which draws from scenes and themes in the book. Incorporating real audio from his family, gospel singers, and orchestral flourishes from violins to timpani to horns, the record is Jollett’s attempt to capture the high hopes of his parents, the dash dreams and difficult times which followed, the confusion of an adult life spent nursing the wounds of childhood, and the ultimate redemption which came from looking inward and finding an acceptance of self and love of family. The record was produced by Mark Needham (The Killers, Fleetwood Mac) at east/west Studios in Hollywood.
Vinyl LP pressing. 2020 release from the Charlatans vocalist. Frontman, singer, label boss, DJ and author, Tim Burgess has been instrumental in so many great records over the years. While in The Charlatans, Tim's indefatigable energy has been a consistent fuel for the band across thirteen high-charting albums. His solo adventure has been no less extraordinary, scaling new heights in 2020 with his fifth solo album, I Love The New Sky. It features wonderfully connective songs of everyday minutiae and universal experience, of love and anger, of loss and belonging, all united by elaborate yet natural arrangements and an effortless but deceptively expert way with melody.
Nonesuch Records releases I Still Play, an album comprising eleven new solo piano compositions written by artists who have recorded for the label. The pieces were written in honor of the label’s longtime President Bob Hurwitz on the occasion of his 2017 shift into the Chairman Emeritus role after running the label for thirty-two years. I Still Play features works by John Adams, Laurie Anderson, Timo Andres, Louis Andriessen, Donnacha Dennehy, Philip Glass, Nico Muhly, Brad Mehldau, Steve Reich, Pat Metheny, and Randy Newman. The pieces have been recorded by Andres and fellow Nonesuch artist Jeremy Denk, as well as by Mehldau and Newman themselves.
Best Wishes is the debut album by Portland's MAITA. Driven by effulgent front-woman Maria’s lambent wit and Matthew’s galvanic guitar, the songs sparkle and rock - a brilliant record from Portland's most exciting new artist.
BRAT is the masterful LP from beloved Chicago multi-instrumentalist NNAMDÏ. It follows his critically acclaimed LP DROOL (2017), an album that brought him to Pitchfork Fest and earned him Best Music of the Year recognition from NPR, FADER, BANDCAMP, and more. On his follow-up BRAT, NNAMDÏ starkly explores the psychological turmoil between Wanting and Needing in a manner that is both intensely personal and highly relatable. It's virtuosic fusion of Hip-Hop, Rock, Pop, Electronics, Gospel, and West African influences firmly establishes him in a genre-less class of his own. NNAMDÏ wrote, produced, and recorded BRAT by himself.
The debut album from British singer/songwriter Eve Owen, Don't
Let the Ink Dry, is a work of raw sensitivity and uncontained imagination, brought to life over the course of three transformative years. During that time, the 20-year-old artist spent her summer holidays writing and recording in New York with The National's Aaron Dessner, immersing herself in a creative exploration that provided welcome refuge from her sometimes-troubled school life. As she discovered an entirely new sense of freedom and belonging, Owen devised a sonic language all her own: frenetic yet delicate, mercurial yet nuanced enough to capture the most ephemeral of feelings. Produced by Dessner at Long Pond Studio (a converted old farmhouse deep in the Hudson Valley), Don't Let the Ink Dry finds Owen embracing her affinity for folk music while pursuing the endless possibilities in electronic experimentation. "I've often felt a bit uncomfortable in myself, and I love how that came out in the music," says Owen. "I don't really care for songs that flow just right or have a perfect cadence-I'd rather there be some sort of unnerving element to them. I think Aaron and I are both attracted to weirdness in music, and we instinctively went after that without really even talking about it." For his part, Dessner reflects on the first day of their collaboration: "Eve came up to visit the studio for a day a few years ago when she was 16. I thought we would record one song but we ended up working on several in just one day. By the next morning she had written a few more songs based on her experience the previous day. This prolific songwriting continued throughout our work together. Every morning there would be new songs, written sometimes overnight. I've been lucky to work with some incredibly talented artists and it was clear to me immediately that Eve was deeply gifted, expressing herself with such force and sincerity on essentially her first proper recording day at Long Pond. I was spellbound."
The Mammals can hear the Earth calling, and they’re asking us to listen. Why is the societal pain and political-environmental challenge in this album actually so listenable? Our ears can hear it because it’s been composed with great care by two of folk-Americana’s most heartfelt topical songwriters and lovingly performed by an ensemble of nine musicians.Whether this album helps us slow to hear Earth’s call and reflect on our collective experiences or serves as a rallying call to action depends on the listener. Either way, we feel reassured that it’s our combined responsibility to stay alert, use our strength to protect the fragile, and remember to stay welcoming and kind. Everyone’s invited to plant their roots, hoist their antenna, and tune in to The Mammals.

Robbie Robertson And The Band [Blu-ray] The story of a band that went from backing up Bob Dylan to becoming one of the most influential groups of it's era.
A film about the love affair between Jamaican and British Youth culture told through the prism of one the most iconic record labels in history, Trojan Records. Combining archive footage, interview and drama, Rudeboy tells the story of Trojan Records by placing it at the heart of a cultural revolution that unfolded in the council estates and dance floors of late 60's and early 70's Britain and how that period of immigration and innovation transformed popular music and culture. A loving tribute that reminds us that music has the power to break down cultural barriers and change lives.
