Charlie Applewhite was discovered by Milton Berle and became an overnight sensation on Berle's top-rated TV show in the early 50's. Hit records followed (available on another Jasmine release) and this new compilation combines for the first time his only LP album of standards, plus 12 rare recordings made for a radio transcription service, three TV performances (including one with Jeannie Carson), as well as a brief radio interview. Applewhite's career as a talented crooner was cut short by the advent of rock and roll, plus injuries in an airplane accident, but this new Jasmine release helps cement his legacy for a new generation.
