A sharp about-face from his poppy previous outing, Last Night finds Moby returning to his rave roots with a heavily electronic album tailor-made to reflect a gleefully decadent New York City club-hopping excursion. Although Moby has dabbled in guitar-driven rock and moody instrumentals, he is clearly most at home performing house-influenced techno.Reviews:
It's been a rough new century for Herman Melville's great-great-great-great nephew. After the gospel mish-mash sensation of 1999's Play, he released two comparative duds'"18 and Hotel'"got served on wax by Eminem, and was roughed up outside of a Boston nightclub. Luckily, he has a pretty original idea for Last Night: condensing an entire bender of New York nightclubbing into one hour-long document. Will it capture the zeitgeist like Play did? Well, Moby's due for a little good luck, don't you think?
